Art Journaling Basics & Beyond

I’m super excited to bring you a new series here on the blog – Art Journaling Basics & Beyond. I am extremely passionate about art journaling as a creative outlet, a therapeutic release, and a wonderful way to build community, and I would love to spread the word and get more people involved. So what better way than to get down to the nitty gritty of it all – the basics you need, and all the fun stuff beyond!

I guess our starting point should be to define art journaling. Just about everyone you ask will give you a different answer, but in my world, art journaling is simply expressing yourself using art. Sometimes you might write down your thoughts, or perhaps a fitting quote, other times you might just splash paint across the page. There are no rules, no guidelines to follow. Simply express yourself any way that makes you happy.

Art journaling is a great creative outlet – colours, paints, lots of good stuff! Its a fantastic way of trying out new techniques or simply creating a fun mess. But it can also be a wonderful therapeutic release. If I’m having a bad day, I can let it all out onto the page, and instantly feel lighter. On the great days, I can spill out my joy, creating a reminder for the future.

Art journaling has got me through many rocky moments, and helped me celebrate many victories. I would be thrilled if I could help you include art journaling in your life too. So please, join me here each Monday as I share this exciting world with you!

Hope to see you next week!

  1. Hi Melita, thank you for taking the time and sharing with us. I have been wanting to art journal for such a long time and I’ve collected all the bits and pieces I would need (and then some! lol) but I haven’t actually put anything on the page at all :-( I think I may have a few restrictions 1) constant illness 2) extreme tiredness 3) family 4) blank page fear 5) fear of writing my thoughts onto the page, and the list goes on and on and….. well, I’m still sitting here wanting to art journal so I think it’s time to just get over it and make a start. Hopefully I can push past the first page thing and remind myself that it’s just for me. I’m looking forward to starting, thank you, Sharon xx
